Norwood is a Stanly County town near the southern end of Lake Tillery, close to where the Rocky River joins the Pee Dee just below Tillery Dam. Its main street carries the brick storefronts and churches of a classic Piedmont mill-and-market town.
Tillery Dam, completed in 1928, created the lake a short drive from downtown, and the town has grown alongside it — first as a service center for dam and river work, and now as the practical hub for the lake's south end.
