Stanly County versus Montgomery County
The western shoreline falls in Stanly County Schools, generally feeding the Norwood and Albemarle attendance areas. The eastern shoreline falls in Montgomery County Schools, centered on Mount Gilead and Troy. Both are small rural districts with consolidated high schools and active athletics and CTE programs.
Attendance areas are set by address, not by proximity to the lake. Verify assignment with the district directly before buying — this is one of the most common assumptions buyers get wrong here.
