Morrow Mountain and the Uwharries
A state park that owns a peninsula of Lake Tillery shoreline, backed by one of the oldest mountain ranges on the continent.
The park
Morrow Mountain State Park
The park covers more than 4,700 acres on the lake's western shore, with over 15 miles of hiking and bridle trails, a summit road and overlook, family cabins, campsites, picnic areas, a seasonal swimming pool, and a public boat ramp. It is the single most useful piece of public land for lake residents.
Because the park holds a long stretch of shoreline permanently, homes across the water from it keep their views indefinitely — a quiet but significant real estate factor.

The forest
Uwharrie National Forest
East and north of the lake, Uwharrie National Forest spreads across more than 50,000 acres. Expect hiking, mountain biking, OHV trail systems, hunting in season, and dispersed camping. The terrain is deceptively rugged for its modest elevations.
Together the park and forest give the Lake Tillery area a land-side depth few North Carolina lakes can match.
