On the water
Boating, fishing, and swimming
Lake Tillery's 5,260 acres carry far less weekend traffic than reservoirs closer to Charlotte, which makes it a genuinely pleasant lake for water sports, tubing, and long pontoon afternoons. Anglers get largemouth and striped bass, catfish, and crappie across distinct seasonal patterns.
Public ramps at the state park, the NC 24/27 causeway area, and the upper lake cover access, and marinas add fuel, slips, and service.
On land
Morrow Mountain, Uwharrie, and beyond
Morrow Mountain State Park occupies a large peninsula on the western shore with more than 15 miles of trail, cabins, camping, a boat ramp, and a pool. East of the lake, Uwharrie National Forest adds over 50,000 acres of hiking, OHV areas, and dispersed recreation.
Add golf, Town Creek Indian Mound, and the Seagrove pottery corridor, and the land side holds its own against the water.
