Power boats
Pontoons, and only pontoons
Lake Tillery has one power-boat rental operation, run out of Lilly's Bridge Marina on the northern half of the lake. The fleet is pontoons, which suits this water: coves for anchoring, long stretches for cruising, and a crowd that skews toward families rather than wake-surf boats.
Reserve early for June, July, and holiday weekends. Midweek and September availability is far better, and September water is still warm.

Above the causeway the lake narrows into river-like water — the best paddling on the reservoir, with wildlife and almost no traffic on a weekday morning. Morrow Mountain's boathouse rents canoes and rowboats in season, and Eldorado Outpost outfits kayak and canoe trips for the wider Uwharrie region.

The Swift Island bridge, explained
Swift Island Boat Landing at 4917 NC Hwy 24/27 is the largest launch on the lake, with roughly 100 trailer spaces and a paved lot. The catch is a low bridge between the launch cove and the main lake. Towers, hardtops, and raised superstructures do not clear it, and Bimini tops must come down until you are through.
If your boat is tall, use Lilly's Bridge Cove instead — about 50 trailer spaces, direct access, and no clearance problem.
