How deep is Lake Tillery?
The old Pee Dee River channel runs deep down the middle of the lake, while coves and the upper reaches are much shallower. Depth at a specific dock depends on the lot and the current pool elevation.
Who owns and manages Lake Tillery?
Duke Energy operates Tillery Dam and manages the reservoir and its shoreline program as part of the Yadkin–Pee Dee hydroelectric project. County rules apply on top of Duke Energy shoreline requirements.

Where can the public launch a boat?
Swift Island Boat Landing on NC 24/27 (about 100 trailer spaces, but a low bridge at the cove mouth), Lilly's Bridge Cove access (about 50 spaces, better for wake towers and hardtops), and the Morrow Mountain State Park ramp.
Can I rent a boat on Lake Tillery?
Yes. Lake Tillery Boat Rentals at Lilly's Bridge Marina rents pontoons; Morrow Mountain's boathouse rents canoes and rowboats seasonally, and Eldorado Outpost handles kayaks and canoes.
Is there a boat length limit?
Local access areas are built around the lake's practical limits — plan on vessels up to about 32 feet at public ramps, and check bridge clearance at Swift Island before running a tower or hardtop.
Can you swim in Lake Tillery?
Yes. Morrow Mountain State Park has a swimming pool and picnic areas, and swimming from private docks and anchored boats in coves is common through the warm months.
Do I need a fishing license?
Yes, a North Carolina inland fishing license from the NC Wildlife Resources Commission. Vessels also need NC registration.
